Snohomish County officials will host a community meeting tonight to talk about the work being done to update the county’s comprehensive plan, the 20-year road map that will guide commercial and residential development throughout the county.
Currently, the comprehensive plan estimates the county will have a population of 714,000 in 2012. By 2025, however, the county is expecting a population boom of between 234,000 and 337,000 new residents.
The comprehensive plan details how the county will provide services, including fixing roads and improving parks, to serve its growing population.
A series of meetings will be held so the plan can be updated, starting with an overview of the comprehensive plan update process. That meeting is 7 to 9 p.m. in conference room A, Parks Student Union Building, Everett Community College.
On Tuesday, the county’s planning commission will get a briefing on the environmental analysis, a study that will detail the impacts of changing the comprehensive plan. The meeting is at 2 p.m. in Rogers Hall at Trinity Episcopal Church in Everett. The study is expected to be released in early May.
Also in May, county planners will be at three libraries to explain the environmental analysis and take comments on the draft study. Planners will be at the Lynnwood, Marysville and Monroe libraries from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 15.
Public hearings on the draft study will be held in Arlington on June 1 and Everett on June 3. Workshops will follow in mid-June in Lynnwood, Monroe and Arlington.
The update of the plan is expected to wrap up in April 2005.
