EVERETT — Police are seeking the public’s help to locate a man last seen Feb. 23 at his brother’s funeral.
Relatives of the missing man, 50-year-old Richard Anthony Maki, last heard from him a day later on Feb. 24, said Kay Howell, an aunt.
When relatives went to Maki’s home on Leonard Drive in north Everett on Feb. 26, they found no sign of him, but the door was unlocked, the inside and porch lights were on and his car parked nearby. Nothing else in the house appeared unusual.
"He wouldn’t leave the house open, ever," said Howell.
Maki, who served in the Army earlier in life, was the full-time caretaker for his mother and his brother, both of whom had multiple medical problems, Howell said. His mother died about a year ago, and his brother died late last month.
Maki had become reclusive and seldom left his home. Family members and police are concerned for his welfare, Everett police Sgt. Boyd Bryant said.
He couldn’t go far from home on foot because he had a bad back, Howell said.
"It’s just a real puzzle. It’s been over a week and it seems like there should have been somebody that had seen him by now," she said.
"We just buried his brother the day before he disappeared. He was quite despondent about losing both his brother and his mother," Howell said.
Maki had no friends the family knew.
Maki is white, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown eyes and graying brown hair.
Police ask anyone with information on Maki to call the Everett Police Department tip line at 425-257-8450.
