EVERETT — The woman apparently valued her freedom more than her puppy.
She was stopped by the Washington State Patrol on northbound I-5 near Everett on Wednesday morning. The woman, 32, had a puppy in her lap and a meth torch close to the dash, according to the arrest report.
The trooper noticed her driving around 11 a.m. because she was going 50 in a 60 mph zone. There was a 10-inch-long crack in her windshield obscuring the driver’s side.
When the trooper ran her information, it turned out she had a felony arrest warrant from a car theft case, along with a suspended license. She was told she would be taken into custody.
She was allowed to hold the puppy during their conversation. They discussed calling a family member to retrieve the pet before she went to jail. The woman reportedly then asked if she could let her dog use the bathroom, a request that was granted.
During the momentary distraction, she allegedly threw the dog at the trooper. Then she ran across all lanes of I-5 and onto 128th Street, barely missing getting hit by passing cars, the report says.
The trooper put the pup in the back of the patrol car and called for backup.
Another trooper found the woman hiding behind a garbage bin at a nearby business.
Police say the Mitsubishi had no license plate and its temporary trip permit looked fake. The woman, who lives south of Everett, reportedly told the trooper she had just gotten the vehicle from impound and that “she had tweekers (sic) in her car last night.”
She was booked for investigation of reckless endangerment, possession of burglary tools, animal cruelty, escape, a forged trip permit, obstructing a police officer and possession of methamphetamine and heroin.
She remained in custody Thursday evening, according to jail records.
