Today is the 43rd day of the 2012 Legislative session and it promises to be a loud one at the Capitol.
Upwards of 1,000 members of the Service Employees International Union Local 925 are expected for a 1 p.m. rally at the Tivoli Fountain, an event that will highlight a day of lobbying by the powerful statewide union.
Joining them will be folks from a collage of organizations including Rebuilding Our Economic Future and Coalition for a Fair Budget. These groups want the Democrat majorities in the House and Senate to come up with new revenue to avert deep budget cuts.
Finally, the Washington State PTA also is planning to hold a rally at noon on the north steps of the Capitol building. The theme of this year’s Focus Day is ‘Every child, one voice.” Parents will almost certainly be calling on lawmakers to make reforms in education that improve the achievement of students.
Meanwhile, House Democrats are getting ready to roll out their supplemental budget proposal. A hearing on their spending plan is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in front of the House Ways and Means Committee.
