ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A recall petition has been filed to remove Wasilla City Councilman Steve Menard from office.
Menard is the city councilman who trashed a hotel room in Sitka in August.
KTUU-TV says the Conservative Patriots Group is sponsoring the petition. The group began collecting signatures soon after Menard’s business trip when he racked up more than $350 in hotel cleaning fees.
Frank Bettine, public relations officer for the Conservative Patriots Group, says the group believes that their politicians should exhibit the highest character, values and morals when in office.
Menard apologized for his behavior and is no longer allowed to travel on city business. The hotel charged for a burned mattress, vomit on the carpet, urine on furniture and evidence of smoking.
