Regatta’s boats, prizes both made of cardboard

LONGVIEW — Nearly all 35 boats made it to the finish line of the Longview Cardboard Boat Regatta Tuesday evening on Lake Sacajawea.

The Daily News reported winners received cardboard trophies.

The race winner was a sentimental favorite, the SS Scottie V, named by sponsor Waite Specialty Machine in memory of Scott Vanderberg, an employee who died June 1 after a motorcycle crash the day before. The Scottie V also won the Team Spirit Award.

The annual regatta is sponsored by KLOG radio and the Longview Fibre Paper and Packaging company.
