OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso — Family members gathered in Ouagadougou to remember loved ones who died a year ago in a plane crash that killed 116 people.
Relatives set up a vigil and shared prayers on Friday near construction of a monument that will display the names of the victims of the Air Algerie flight that left Burkina Faso and then crashed in Mali.
Sandrine Tricot, a French national who lost her husband, said she and others were battling to have unidentified remains of victims brought to be buried at the memorial. She said they are buried in Bamako, Mali.
Flight 5017, a McDonnell Douglas MD-83 heading for Algiers, crashed some 30 minutes after taking off. French, Burkina Faso nationals, Lebanese, Algerians and Canadians were among those on the flight with a Spanish crew.
