SEATTLE — A federal judge has sentenced a Renton man to 10 years in prison for fatally shooting an 18-year-old as he ran from the scene of a failed drug robbery.
U.S. District Judge Robert Lasnik also ordered David Steven Ross to spend four years on supervised release once he’s out.
Ross pleaded guilty to four felony counts that included conspiracy to distribute marijuana, using a gun during a drug trafficking crime and illegally possessing a firearm.
According to court records, Ross and a friend went to a Federal Way apartment to sell marijuana to two men. Ross was armed with a stolen gun. The two men drew pistols and tried to take the drugs. When Ross claimed he was an undercover officer, the men ran and Ross shot at them, killing one.
