MONROE — Rescue teams are searching for a 17-year-old boy who likely drowned after jumping into the water at Cedar Ponds on Sunday near Monroe, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
Rescue teams responded around 6 p.m. Sunday, after someone reported the incident to the Monroe Police Department, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Courtney O’Keefe said. It’s not clear whether or not that person knew the boy.
The search continued until dark and resumed again Monday morning. The team was still looking as of 3 p.m. Monday. The boy’s hometown is not known, O’Keefe said.
She reminds people to be safe around swift water.
“Unfortunately this is the fourth drowning and sixth incident in two years that our rescue teams have responded to in this location,” she said.
