SNOHOMISH — Firefighters worked for hours to free a horse trapped by fallen logs Saturday afternoon.
A woman was riding on a horse trail in the Lord Hill Park about 3 p.m. when her horse slipped off a small bridge, Snohomish Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief John Hinchcliffe said. The horse landed in a creek on its back.
The rider wasn’t hurt.
Firefighters, Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies, animal control officers and neighbors worked for hours to free the animal trapped under fallen logs. A vet also was called to sedate the horse.
Firefighters climbed down into the creek and with a chainsaw cut away fallen trees. They used a truckhoe provided by a man who lives in the area to pull the animal to safety.
“We improvised a sling around the animal and we were able to slide it out of the creek,” Hinchcliffe said. “We couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help,” he said.
The horse was taken to the vet. It was not known Saturday how seriously the horse had been hurt.
