FORT LEWIS – Soldiers of the U.S. Army Reserve’s 3rd platoon of the 909th adjutant general company, headquartered in Bothell, and the 971st transportation detachment, based in Eugene, Ore., were welcomed home at Fort Lewis on Saturday.
About 30 soldiers from the two units served in Iraq. During their mission, the soldiers distributed incoming and outgoing mail for U.S. soldiers in central command, the theater command for the Middle East.
The 909th mobilized in December 2003 and arrived in Kuwait in January 2004 to support operations in Iraq. During the deployment, the entire company handled 21.2 million pounds of mail.
The 971st mobilized in December 2003 and arrived in Kuwait on February 2004. They conducted various transportation missions, which included escorting civil affairs personnel to school and community sights.
