EVERETT — Ready to tee off?
Stop at the cash machine for extra green.
It may cost city residents more money to play golf next year at the town’s two courses.
Under an Everett Parks Department proposal, city residents will no longer receive a discount at the city’s two public golf courses — Legion Memorial at 144 West Marine View Drive and Walter E. Hall Memorial at 1226 West Casino Road.
The proposed rate increase would add about $10 to some daily rates.
Currently, city residents can play an 18-rounder on weekdays for $21. Next year, they’ll pay the nonresident rate of $31.
The Everett City Council will hear the Parks Department proposal at a workshop Wednesday, following the regular 7 p.m. council meeting. The public can attend, but comments won’t be taken.
A public hearing on the proposed fee increase is scheduled for Dec. 24, during the council’s regular meeting. Council members also will vote that day whether to approve the fee increase.
The rate increases are nothing new. The Parks Department makes annual rate adjustments, said Lori Cummings, assistant parks director.
"We do this in order to remain competitive and pay for golf operation costs," Cummings said.
Last year was an exception. Prices stayed the same.
A slight increase in annual membership fees also is proposed, said Ed Adrian, golf course superintendent.
There will be no change in the majority of daily rates at the Legion Hall golf course. Slight increases are proposed for Walter E. Hall golf course, Adrian added.
Cummings called the resident discount outdated.
"We are the only municipal golf course that offers a resident discount," she said.
Cummings said that 86 percent of the daily rounds are played by nonresidents.
To offset the proposed fee increases, the Parks Department will offer resident annual passes, as well as a new 10-play discount rate. Other special rates are planned.
The proposed fee increases will be posted on the two golf course Web sites later this week, Cummings said. The addresses are www.legionmemorialgolf.com and www.walterhallgolf.com.
