Snohomish County restaurants collected more than $12,000 from last week’s dine-out event for the Windows of Hope Family Relief Fund, which has nationally pulled in more than $1.4 million.
The owner of the famous Windows on the World restaurant established the fund to provide aid to the families of victims of the World Trade Center tragedy who worked in the food service profession in the complex. More than 3,500 restaurants worldwide marked the one-month anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks by donating at least 10 percent of their proceeds from dinner on Oct. 11.
Stan Geddes said it was the busiest day in history for his two Sparta’s Pizza and Spaghetti House restaurants in Lynnwood and Bothell. He sent a check to the relief fund for $3,900, which includes a quarter of the receipts plus extra donations from employees, customers and vendors in the form of cheese, lettuce, bread and wine.
In Edmonds, a group of 18 restaurants banded together and collected more than $8,000. Seaun Richards said he planned to send checks out Friday and is still waiting on totals from three of the restaurants.
Richards, who donated half the sales from his Fifth Avenue Grill House, had hoped to raise five times that much, so he urged locals to still drop by the restaurants and make contributions.
"I’d still like to see Edmonds make the $50,000, even if it takes us a month or a year to do that," he said.
Donations may be left at any of the following restaurants in Edmonds: Fifth Avenue Grill House, Angie’s, Provinces, Claire’s Pantry, Girardi’s, Chanterelle’s, Portofino’s Pizza and Pasta, Girasol Mexican Restaurant, Las Brisas Mexican Restaurant, Toshi’s Teriyaki, Waterfront Coffee Co., Cafe de Paris, Edmonds Bakery, Billy’s Cubby Hole, Ciao Italia Pizzeria, Rory’s of Edmonds, and Sahib Cuisine of India.
