EVERETT – A man wanted in connection with a fatal crash in Rhode Island has been arrested in Everett.
Pedro S. Lux, 34, was picked up by the Pacific Northwest Fugitive Apprehension Task Force at an Everett apartment complex Sunday morning. He was reportedly swapping the Rhode Island license plates on his vehicle with Washington plates at the time of his arrest, according to the U.S. Marshal Eric Robertson.
Last month, Lux failed to show up in a Rhode Island court, where he was to be sentenced for 10 criminal charges stemming from an accident that killed a woman and severely injured her two sons in October 2001.
Lux was fleeing the scene of an accident when he ran a stop sign and hit the woman’s vehicle. It was determined that he was drunk at the time of the crash.
After he failed to appear for sentencing, Rhode Island officials learned that Lux likely was headed to Everett, where he had friends, Robertson said. It was believed that he was attempting to flee the country, Robertson said.
The information was relayed to the task force, which set up surveillance at the Everett apartment and spotted Lux a short time later.
