EVERETT — Two separate projects should make traveling along W. Marine View Drive easier for drivers and pedestrians.
The first is a city project to improve sidewalks that’s set to begin April 7 and last until early July.
A separate state project will take care of potholes and cracks on W. Marine View Drive from Naval Station Everett to the Alverson Bridge.
The repaving work is expected to begin in May and finish by October.
Meanwhile, the city’s contractor will be working at three sites:
Between Everett Avenue to 25th Street the sidewalks will be widened from 4 to 10 feet;
At the 18th Street and 19th Street intersections, curb ramps will be upgraded to meet Americans With Disabilities Act requirements;
Between 10th Street and North View Park, trees will be removed and replaced with a planter along the roadway.
The trees are being removed because their roots are cracking the sidewalk.
The project is part of the city’s long-term efforts to improve pedestrian access to the waterfront, said Dongho Chang, city traffic engineer. The Port of Everett already made similar improvements nearby and the city’s project will continue some of that work.
The entire city of Everett project budget, including design and construction, is around $1 million. About half of that money comes from state and federal grants, Chang said.
The state project budget is $1.2 million.
The city’s contractor plans to work Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Flaggers should be on hand to guide traffic.
