EVERETT — The suspects behind a string of robberies on Monday morning may have used pellet guns, according to a police report.
Two men, both 19, allegedly robbed three people at gunpoint and attempted to rob a fourth in the parking lots of various businesses in south Everett. The victims reported that the suspects took their cellphones and wallets.
One said a knife was held to his throat.
The robberies happened in quick succession. The first took place around 4 a.m. outside of Anytime Fitness, police said. Then, at 5:30 a.m., someone reported they had been robbed in a Fred Meyer parking lot. Minutes later, another person phoned in saying they were held up in an Everett Mall parking lot.
The suspects allegedly attempted a fourth robbery. A woman was parked at Costco when one of the men allegedly hit the window of her car with his gun. She told police the gun looked plastic, so she didn’t take them seriously, according to the police report. She snapped a photo of their vehicle as they left the scene.
All four victims described a similar vehicle: a metallic-colored Chevrolet SUV — which would turn out to be a TrailBlazer — with no license plate.
One said he was able to track his cellphone after the suspects took off.
The police followed the phone’s signal to a house in south Everett and found a vehicle that matched the victims’ descriptions.
A man was standing near the rear of the SUV with a socket wrench in his hand, apparently in the process of putting on the license plate, which was hanging from one bolt, court papers show.
A second man allegedly ran out the back of the house, dropping a messenger bag and black case in the yard.
Police detained both men, who matched the witnesses’ descriptions. The woman who was nearly robbed at Costco was able to identify them as well, according to the report.
One of the suspects allegedly said that he carried out nine to 10 robberies throughout the night. He said the stolen items, as well as the pellet guns, could be found in the house.
The other suspect reportedly said he was present at three of the robberies.
The two men were booked into Snohomish County Jail for investigation of three counts of first-degree robbery and one count of attempted robbery. They remained in custody Tuesday.
