EVERETT — A yen for a good night’s sleep at economy rates proved the undoing of a suspected armed robber Wednesday.
Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies arrested the 31-year-old suspect Wednesday morning at a Motel 6 on 100th Street SW and Evergreen Way in Everett, shortly after responding to a report of an armed robbery at an Arco gas station a few blocks away.
The alleged robber’s distinct appearance and apparent fondness of Motel 6 led police right to him, said sheriff spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen.
A robbery victim described the robber as a heavyset man with a teardrop tattoo on his face. The description matched a suspect in another armed robbery that occurred Tuesday at a gas station a few blocks south of the Arco.
Investigators learned that a teardrop-tattooed suspect in that robbery had stayed at the Motel 6 Tuesday night, Jorgensen said.
He was at the motel again Wednesday night and was arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail, Jorgensen said. Investigators searched the room and found cash and convenience store property, Jorgensen said.
Business fire: A fire at a printing shop sent smoke billowing into a business park and forced the evacuation of nearby businesses Wednesday.
The fire broke out at 6 p.m. at B’s Quality Printing, 9605 Firdale Way in the Firdale Village shopping center, said Edmonds assistant fire chief Kevin Taylor. The business was closed and no one was inside, but a restaurant and a convenience store were evacuated because of the smoke, Taylor said.
No one was hurt.
