SALEM, Ore. — A Marion County jury has once again voted to execute 54-year-old Robert Langley for a killing a quarter century ago.
It’s the fifth time he’s faced a death sentence.
In 1989, Langley was convicted of two separate killings. Prosecutors said he buried one victim in a backyard hole, another in a cactus garden.
In a retrial, one of his death sentences was changed to life in prison.
The state Supreme Court threw out the other, for the killing of Anne Gray. Prosecutors said he taped her mouth and eyes shut and watched her die.
Twice more, he was sentenced to death for killing Gray. Twice more the sentences were thrown out, leading to Wednesday’s decision, the Statesman Journal (http://stjr.nl/1ton9tC ) reports.
Oregon’s last execution was in 1997.
