Schedule of Memorial Day observances

Today

Clinton: As part of Clinton Days, free lunch to commemorate Memorial Day, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Jim’s Hardware, 4777 Commercial Ave., Clinton. Make a donation to Habitat to Humanity for your burger or hot dog.

Coupeville: Coupeville Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony, 11 a.m. today, Town Park, two blocks from the downtown district on Front Street. Central Whidbey Chamber of Commerce. Navy jet flyover, vintage cars, Northwest Navy Band.

Everett: Registration for a Memorial Day weekend walk to raise money for a D-Day monument, 8:30 a.m. today, Marina Village parking lot, north of Naval Station Everett. Participants will go onto the base and walk a two-mile route beginning at 10 a.m. today.

Navy Wives of America Totem 277 Club is helping raise money for a monument at Utah Beach in France to honor U.S. sailors who died in the Normandy invasion. Participants may seek pledges or make a donation. Prizes and trophies. Registration fee of $15 includes commemorative T-shirt, a gift bag and lunch. Lake Stevens: Lake Stevens Memorial American Legion Post 181 plans poppy sales, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, area markets.

Monday

Arlington: Flags hung at 5 a.m. Monday at Arlington Cemetery, 20310 67th Ave. NE. Volunteers needed at 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. to put up and take down flags. Breakfast, 7 a.m. Legion Hall, 115 N. Olympic Ave. Memorial Day Parade, by American Legion Post 76 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 561, 10 a.m., along French Avenue and Fourth and First streets. Ceremony, 11 a.m., Arlington Cemetery, 20310 67th Ave. NE.

Darrington: American Legion Post 76 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 561 offer a service at about noon Monday, Darrington Cemetery, Monday, 45521 Highway 530 NE. Lunch, 1 p.m., Darrington Senior Center, 1085 Darrington Ave., Suite B.

Edmonds: Edmonds Memorial Cemetery’s 25th annual Memorial Day ceremony, 11 a.m. Monday, at 15th Street SW and 100th Avenue W., north of the Westgate shopping center. Bring folding chairs.

Gold Star families and World War II and Coast Guard veterans have a special invitation. Program includes music by the Edmonds-Woodway High School Vocal Volunteers, the Seattle University Brass Quartet and a bagpipe trio. Mayor Gary Haakenson is set to speak.

Colors presented by the American Legion Post 66, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8870, scouting troops and the U.S. Coast Guard. Rifle salute and taps by Washington National Guard.

Everett: Everett Elks Lodge 479, Everett Emblem Club 523 and Cub Scout Pack 36 to place flags at the graves of veterans beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum, 4504 Broadway.

Breakfast, 7 to 11 a.m. Monday, Everett Elks Lodge, 2731 Rucker Ave., $8, benefits Christmas food baskets.

Everett: Snohomish County Central Memorial Committee offers a ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday, Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum, 4504 Broadway.

Dedicated to artist Bernie Webber, who never missed a service. State Sen. Paull Shin, D-Edmonds, is scheduled to speak. The Snohomish High School MCJROTC Honor Guard and other ROTC groups will be on hand. Lunch served, 1 to 3 p.m., Fleet Reserve Branch 170, at 6802 Beverly Blvd. Meatloaf with trimmings, $4.

Everett: The Pacific Northwest Veterans Committee of the Boeing Co. plans two screenings of the award-winning documentary “In the Shadow of the Blade” at the Future of Flight Aviation Center and Boeing Tour.

The film is scheduled to show at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday at the center, 8415 Paine Field Blvd. Admission is free.

The documentary follows the cross-country journey of a restored UH-1 Huey helicopter into the back yards of Vietnam veterans and families to share their untold stories. Call the Future of Flight center at 425-438-8100.

Granite Falls: Memorial services 11 a.m. Monday at the American Legion Cemetery, 10406 Jordan Road, Granite Falls. Potluck follows at the Legion Hall, 301 S. Granite St., Granite Falls. Service is for the military and the community.

Lake Stevens: Lake Stevens Memorial American Legion Post 181 ceremony, 11 a.m. Monday, downtown Lake Stevens War Memorial, 1812 124th Ave. NE, Lake Stevens. Full Memorial Day Service including lowering all flags to half-staff, reading the names of those engraved on the War Memorial and the playing of taps. Service, noon, Machias Cemetery, 1204 Silva St., Snohomish.

Lynnwood: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1040 offers a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday at Veterans’ Park, 19300 44th Ave.

Marysville: American Legion Post 178 offers a public Memorial Day Ceremony set for 11 a.m. Monday at the Marysville Cemetery, 8801 State Ave. An open house and luncheon follows at the post’s Legion Hall, 115 Cedar Ave. Call 360-659-7130.

Monroe: Memorial Day Services 11 a.m. Monday, IOOF Cemetery, 21714 Old Owen Road. Snohomish High School MCJROTC Honor Guard participating. Call 360-794-4367.

Snohomish: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 921 and American Legion Post 96 plan a Memorial Day service at 11 a.m. Monday, at the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery, 8602 Riverview Road. The Snohomish High School band and MCJROTC Honor Guard plan to participate.

Stanwood: American Legion Post 92 in Stanwood plans a Memorial Day service at 11 a.m. Monday at the Anderson Cemetery off Pioneer Highway south of Stanwood. Congressman Rick Larsen is scheduled to be the keynote speaker. Stanwood High School band is set to perform.

Seattle: The Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Evergreen-Washelli offers a service at 1:30 p.m. Monday at 11111 Aurora Ave. N.

National: For the seventh consecutive year, United Spinal Association and the White House Commission on Remembrance asks citizens to reflect upon the meaning of Memorial Day at 3 p.m. Monday, with a moment of silence, to honor those who gave their lives serving their country.

Closures

Memorial Day is Monday. Here are some closures and schedule changes:

Government: Federal, state and local offices are closed.

Schools: Closed, including colleges.

Post offices: Closed, although express mail service continues.

Commerce: Most businesses and banks are closed. Malls and many retail stores are open.

Garbage collection: Rubatino Refuse Removal plans normal pickup hours.

Transportation: Everett Transit and Community Transit are on Sunday schedules. Information is available at www.community transit.org. For state ferry information, call 511 or 888-808-7977.
