HAYDEN, Idaho — Kootenai County sheriff’s officials say a Lakeland School bus carrying 14 teens after school slid on an icy road and struck a tree.
A statement from the sheriff’s office said the driver lost control of the bus Tuesday afternoon on a curve. Deputies say it slid off the road, hitting a tree in the back of the bus.
Deputies say a 15- and a 16-year-old sitting near that area of the bus complained of soreness but were not hospitalized. The school district notified parents and another bus transported the children.
The driver, Debbie Page, 58, of Otis Orchards, Wash., told deputies the bus was going around 5 mph.
Lt. Stu Miller says no citations were issued but it appeared the bus was going too fast for conditions at the time.
