A Marysville-Pilchuck High School student was airlifted with serious injuries to a Seattle hospital this morning after being struck by a school bus while walking to school, officials said.
The accident occurred at around 7 a.m. in the 5700 block of 108th Street NE, near the high school.
The student, whose identity was not immediately released, is believed to be 16 or 17. He was dressed in dark clothing and walking alone in a poorly lit area of 108th Street when the mishap occurred, said Rich Niebusch, spokesman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office is investigating, but Niebusch said speed does not appear to be a factor.
“Whether he stepped in front of the bus or the bus impacted him, we don’t know right now,” he added.
