Kindergarten orientation for Lake Stevens set
An orientation and barbecue is Aug. 27 for families and kindergarten students who will attend Sunnycrest Elementary School in Lake Stevens in the fall. The school is holding the orientation at Mount Pilchuck Elementary and Hillcrest Elementary, where Sunnycrest students will attend classes this fall while Sunnycrest is being remodeled.
The orientation gives students and their parents a chance to meet their teacher, visit their classroom, drop off school supplies, find their seat and student bathrooms, meet members of the PTA, and practice boarding and exiting a bus. A family barbecue is expected after the orientation.
The orientation for Sunnycrest kindergartners attending Mount Pilchuck Elementary this fall is 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Mount Pilchuck Elementary, 12806 20th St. NE. The orientation for Sunnycrest kindergartners attending Hillcrest Elementary is 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Hillcrest, 9315 Fourth St. SE.

Cavelero Mid-High School orientation scheduled
Cavelero Mid-High School student orientation is Thursday.
Students are asked to enter through the bus turn-around area on the west side of the building to sign up for lockers, learn about the athletic programs and make appointments with their counselors. Yearbooks, ASB cards, PE shirts and Cavelero spirit wear will also be available for purchase.
Students are encouraged to log on to the Family Access Web portal to print schedules prior to orientation. However, printed schedules should be available on-site.
Parents are also welcome to attend. Parents will meet in a computer lab to sign up to volunteer at the school, subscribe to the e-mail alert system for news and upcoming activities and view an orientation presentation.

Lakewood High to thank those who fought fire
On Wednesday, the Lakewood School District and the Marysville Fire District plan to honor people who helped contain a fire at Lakewood Elementary School on July 23. The apparent arson damaged two classrooms at the school.
A recognition celebration is 5:30 p.m. in the Lakewood High School commons area, 17023 11th Ave. NE. Everyone is welcome.
Arlington auction to raise money for students
Arlington Kids’ Kloset has scheduled its Taste of Washington fundraiser for 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at 20217 Old Burn Road in Arlington.
The event features live jazz by The Collaborations from 6 to 7 p.m. A silent auction and small live auction are expected to follow. The menu includes food and wines produced in Washington.
Money raised at the event is expected to help purchase clothing, shoes, backpacks and school supplies for children in the Arlington, Lakewood and Darrington school districts.
Tickets are $30 for an individual and $50 per couple. Tickets are available at Flowers by George in Arlington and at the Arlington Pharmacy. Tickets may also be reserved by calling Kids’ Kloset at 360-435-4875.
School schedule set for Granite Falls schools
Granite Falls schools are scheduled to open in early September.
For students in first through ninth grade, school starts Sept. 3. Students in 10th through 12th grades begin school Sept. 4 so freshman students can participate in the LINK orientation on Sept. 3.
Kindergartners begin school Sept. 5. Kindergarten parent orientation for both Mountain Way and Monte Cristo elementary schools is 6 p.m. Sept. 3. Kindergarten visitation day is from 9 to 11 a.m. and from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 4.

All school offices are open from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. for new-student and kindergarten registration.
