New food program seeks donations

The Foundation for Edmonds School District is collecting funds for its new Nourishing Network program, a weekend meal program to serve the district’s homeless and low-income families.

A Dec. 6 benefit concert by the Mosaic Choir and Orchestra, North Sound Church and Campbell Nelson VW/Nissan helped bring the group closer to its goal of raising $20,000. The foundation has a donor who will match up to $20,000 in donations. The Campbell Nelson car dealership also will match 10 percent of the group’s fundraising, up to a total of $50,000.

To donate, visit www.foundationesd.org or mail to P.O. Box 390, Lynnwood, WA 98046. For more information, contact Foundation Executive Director Deb Anderson at 425-431-7260 or foundation-ed@edmonds.wednet.edu.

A ribbon cutting was held Nov. 19 to celebrate the official opening of the Nourishing Network pantry, which is located at the Old Woodway High School campus. Attendees toured the pantry full of donated food items and helped pack bags of meals and snacks. Once the bags were ready to go, technicians from Frontier Communications loaded the bags onto their service trucks to take them to school sites for distribution.

Music students get 13K food items

Lynnwood High School’s TriM club organized its third annual food drive. TriM stands for “Modern Music Masters,” and is essentially a music honor society. A total of 95 volunteers gave over 400 hours of their time soliciting donations from the community in front of 10 local grocery and drug stores. They collected over 13,000 food items and $3,600 to benefit the Lynnwood Food Bank.

They also collected hundreds of personal care items which will be split between the Lynnwood Food Bank, an Adopt-a-Family event and a spring service project.
