School science fair: Immaculate Conception-Our Lady of Perpetual Help School held its annual school Science Fair recently. There were 196 participants, 185 individual projects and seven classes doing class projects. Here are the winners: Overall Best of Show: Joey Eichinger Grades K-6 Judges Awards: Alex Bittinger, Samuel Skranak, Mirka Mandich, Samantha Newland, Samantha Poplasky, Gabrielle Caferro, Jake Hecla, Austin Linkous, Sam Shober, Alex Engel. Junior High Division, seventh grade awards: Taylor Nelson, first place; Kyle Thomas, second place; Monica Webber, third place; Dana Wicklund, fourth place; Luke Eichinger and Tory Moran, honorable mentions. Junior High Division, eighth-grade awards: Riley Drabb, first place; Haley Rudolph, second place; Danielle Bayne, third place; Ben Barhanovich, fourth place; Rochelle Rhone and Alexandra Speaks, honorable mentions.

Snohomish students get gold: The following Snohomish High School students took part in the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Regional Event and brought back gold medals. They will now prepare to compete at the state level in Wenatchee in April. Illustrated Talk: Ashlie English (her topic was child abuse) Focus on Children: Kelsey Price and Kristina Gough (their topic was healthy habits) Facilitators: Melissa Homer, Ashley Bryant, Michelle Orton and Libby Cash. They will also participate at state and were awarded certificates of participation.

Snohomish debaters win sweepstakes: The Snohomish Debate &Competitive Speech team won the sweepstakes, which is the top team award, at the Puget Sound Nationals Qualifying Tournament held March 2-4. In addition, three members qualified individually for the right to compete for the national championship in Dallas: Sarah Spiker in Controversy Debate, Eric Hare as a Senator in Student Congress, and Todd Rainey, who qualified in both Controversy Debate and Extemporaneous Speech (international affairs). Alternates are Colin Cole (Congress), Kammi Sheeler (Congress), Eric Hare (Extemporaneous and Controversy), Nikki Thompson (Controversy), Paul Williamson (Controversy), and Matt Lee (Controversy). In addition, Kammi Sheeler and Nikki Thompson will represent Snohomish in the finals rounds of the state championship for controversy debate.

Lake Stevens staff awards: March recipients of the Lake Stevens School District’s Apple Awards are: Joe Cronin, math teacher at Lake Stevens High School; Debbie Stalder, physical education teacher at Lake Stevens Middle School; Kathy Sierakowska, fifth grade teacher at Skyline Elementary; and Wanda Terra, paraeducator at North Lake Middle School.
