Byrd scholar: Joseph Dang, a 2006 Cascade High School graduate, has been awarded a Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship. Dang is a freshman at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. The scholarship program, which is federally funded and state-administered, is designed to recognize exceptional high school seniors who show promise of continued excellence in post-secondary education.
Merit semifinalist: Katie Bloom, a student at Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy High School in Everett, has qualified as a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program, placing her among the 16,000 students in the United States with high scores on the PSAT.
Lake Stevens teachers honored: September recipients of the Lake Stevens School District’s Apple Award are: Ann Leslie, first-grade teacher at Mt. Pilchuck Elementary School; Roni Garner, teacher’s aide at North Lake Middle School; Liz Plunkett, music teacher at Highland Elementary School; and Bill Kusler, kindergarten teacher at Skyline Elementary School.
