Catholic students help: The 135 students at St. Pius X Catholic School in Mountlake Terrace over six weeks brought in change and dollar bills, raising more than $600 for Jake Finkbonner. Jake is the boy at Children’s Medical Center in Seattle that is battling an infection of flesh-eating bacteria. Jake attends a Catholic school in Bellingham. Also, the student government decided to add a food drive to their Lent service project, in addition to Change for Jake. In six days, more than 2,000 non-perishable items were donated. Half of the food was given to the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the other half to the Mountlake Terrace Food Bank.
Catholic art show winners: Archbishop Murphy High School student Kelsey Stoeser won first place for her pencil portraits in the school’s first juried art show. Josey Meeker won second place for a ceramic Medusa mask, Megan Brown won third with a floral mask and Taylor Loutsis and Charly Locking both received honorable mentions. The art show also attracted more than 120 entries from eight area Catholic elementary schools. A Best in Show Honorable Mention went to second-grader Joseph Allen from St. Mary Magdalen School in Everett for an acrylic painting. Artwork was judged by professional artists and community leaders.
