Snohomish students commended: Seven Snohomish High School students are listed as Commended Students for the 2006 National Merit Scholarship Program. These students scored in the top 5 percent on their PSATs: Esme Dutcher, Bradley Gerhardt, Evelyn Gillie, Christian Legaspi, Mark McDuff, Stephanie Persson and Daniel Walters.
Barbecue raises $2,400: On Saturday, state Rep. John Lovick, D-Mill Creek, and his wife, Karen, hosted a barbecue fundraiser for the Henry M. Jackson High School band with their famous Cajun deep-fried turkey, hot wings, jo-jo potatoes and cornbread. The businesses, individuals and groups who contributed to the event helped raise $2,400 for bands at the Mill Creek school. The funds will be used to purchase new music equipment and help pay for a spring performance tour in Mexico.
