Snohomish grads in Arizona: Jacquelynn (Brekke) Dwyer and her husband, Kelly Dwyer, both 2000 graduates of Snohomish High School, graduated from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Ariz. She received a bachelor of arts in education and is teaching first grade in Tucson, and he received a bachelor of science in business administration and is an accountant in Tucson.
Cascadia designation: CFRE International has given a professional designation of certified fund-raising executive to Camilla Bishop, executive director of Cascadia Community College Development and Foundation in Bothell.

High marks: Nicole Massengale from Henry M. Jackson High School in Mill Creek was recognized as an “Outstanding Participant” in the National Achievement Scholarship Program for black Americans. Students qualify by scoring in the top 5 percent of 120,000 black Americans who took the PSAT.
Commended students: Pooja Patel and Maria Walters from Henry M. Jackson High, Andrea Woods from Cascade High and Peter Lee from Everett High received Letters of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Program in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.
They will not, however, continue in the competition for Merit Scholarship awards. To qualify, they placed in the top 5 percent of more than 1 million entrants on the PSAT.
Teacher honors: Everett High School teacher Ray Kent and Cascade High School teacher Melissa Webster have been named 2004 Claes Nobel Educators of Distinction by the National Society of High School Scholars for encouraging young people and helping them to achieve their goals. The National Society of High School Scholars recognizes academic excellence and encourages members to apply their unique talents, vision and potential for the betterment of themselves and the world.
Seattle museum picks: Four Stanwood High School students were selected for the Frye Art Museum’s seventh annual student exhibition through March 27. The theme of the exhibit is “About Face: Creative Portraiture” self-portraits. The selected students are sophomore K.C. Cleek (pen-and-ink drawing), junior Whitney Swanenburg (acrylic painting), senior Kayleigh Kauffman (computer graphics) and senior Leslie Matthews (photography). The exhibit features works from students from kindergarten through high school from across the state.
Masonic picks: Snohomish High School staff chose their top five junior boys and girls for the Masonic Lodge Outstanding Junior Award, which will be given to one boy and girl at a ceremony April 20. The top five boys selected: Luke Darling, David Pinkerton, Kevin Rodland, Andrew St. Marie and Zach Troost. The top five girls selected: Katrina Alonso, Molly Corcoran, Evelyn Gillie, Daesha Henderson and Mackenna Stewart.
Essay winner: Shaney Weller, a fifth-grader at Emerson Intermediate Center in Snohomish, won first place for her classroom in a local VFW essay contest and took second place among all fifth-graders in the county. Sixth-grade students from Cascade View Elementary also participated in the VFW District 1 contest, which awarded several first, second and third places and honorable mentions.
