Mariner High School
“DECA (a marketing club) is going great. There is an area competition that is going to be occurring right after break in January. There is so much going on. There’s a lot of spirit and unity. Our basketball team is doing well and so is the wrestling team, and our swimming team has more numbers. This is just a really great year at Mariner, I would say.”

Everett middle school boundaries to change
A committee looking at revamping middle school boundaries in the Everett School District will hear public comments on its preliminary recommendation.
A hearing has been scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at Eisenhower Middle School’s cafeteria, 10200 25th Ave. SE.
More information is to be posted on the district’s Web site, www.everett.k12.wa.us.
The superintendent will review the group’s final recommendation. The school board will ultimately approve a plan, likely in the spring. Changes are to take effect in fall 2008.
Northshore adds snow days to school calendar
Northshore will extend the school year by three days – June 19, 20 and 21 – because of snow closures in November. June 21 will be a half day.
Also, June 18 will now be a full day of school; it previously was scheduled to be a half day.
A retired choral director from Snohomish High School will lead a concert Jan. 20 to benefit a new scholarship fund for students pursuing choral music.
Patrick Castro, who retired in 2005, said he saw a need for the award, which will be administered by the Snohomish Education Foundation.
Former members of the school’s Crimson Singers will help raise funds toward the $8,000 goal, performing musical numbers, jazz pieces, opera arias, quartet harmonies and more.
The “Ready! Set! Sing!” concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Everett PUD Auditorium, 2320 California Ave., in Everett.
Admission is $20 at the door. Seniors and students pay $15, children ages 6 to 12 are $10 and families can get in for $60.
School boards recently named new officers for the new year. Among them:
The Marysville School Board will discuss reorganizing Wednesday. Currently, Michael Kundu is chairman and Cindy Erickson is vice-chairwoman.
Arlington, Granite Falls, Lake Stevens, Lakewood, Monroe, Northshore, Stanwood-Camano and Sultan made no changes.
