State Web site offers graduation information
The state Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction has launched a Web site that will help parents and students navigate new graduation requirements that take effect for this year’s sophomores.
Key features of the site, at www.k12.wa.us/graduation requirements, include:
* An explanation of each of the four statewide graduation requirements.
* Links to the state learning standards for each subject. n Links to information about the Washington Assessment of Student Learning, or WASL. n Information about the academic help being provided to students over the summer and during the school year.
* Resources for educators, families and students.
The site works in tandem with the recently launched WASL Resource Center, wasl2006.org.

Three Mukilteo schools too crowded for transfers
Three schools in the Mukilteo School District for a second year will be closed to students who live outside the district.
Kamiak High, Mariner High and Harbour Pointe Middle schools are overcrowded, administrators say.
“Our forecasts indicate that the growth is going to continue for the next several years, at least,” Superintendent Marci Larsen said.
Out-of-district students already enrolled can continue to attend the same schools. However, current out-of-district students moving on to sixth or ninth grades may not be able to follow their peers to the closed schools.
About 3 percent of the district’s secondary school enrollment, 232 students, live outside its borders.
