Meadowdale sets lofty goal for annual food drive
Meadowdale High School students have come close to collecting 100,000 food items three straight years and are hoping this year to eclipse that mark.
Their annual food drive, a two-week campaign, will end at 2 p.m. Friday.
“For the past three years, we have come close to the six-digit number but this year we are aiming to get there,” said Matt Wallace, the school’s activities director.
Donations of money and food will be given to the Mountlake Terrace Food Bank. The public can make donations at the school, 6002 168th St. SW.
Modest increase in price of Everett bond proposal
A record $198.9 million bond proposal would increase the tax for many property owners in the Everett School District about a dollar a week, under the latest estimates.
Together with a renewal of the district’s four-year maintenance and operations levy, which also will be on the Feb. 7 ballot, the total tax rate would be an estimated $4.99 per $1,000 valuation. That’s $998 per year for the owner of a $200,000 house, a $52 increase.
The estimated rate is 26 cents higher than the anticipated 2006 rate of $4.73, according to the Snohomish County Assessor’s Office. The current rate is $5.01.
It’s official: Oak Harbor stadium bond passes
Oak Harbor High School will be able to host football and soccer playoff games by the 2007-08 season.
Final results from the Nov. 8 election show that the $6.5 million, 15-year bond measure to rebuild Memorial Stadium on the high school site passed with 61.79 percent support, 5,363 to 3,316.
The measure needed 60 percent support to pass. In all, 52 percent of registered voters in the district cast a vote on the bond measure.
Property taxes will go up by an estimated 2 cents per $1,000 valuation, or $4 per year for the owner of a $200,000 house.
Construction is scheduled to start this summer, with completion in time for the fall football season in 2007.
