District prints Kodak, but protest not over

Everett district Superintendent Carol Whitehead last week went around student newspaper editors and had the Oct. 17 edition of The Kodak printed and distributed to Everett High School students.

Student co-editors Claire Lueneburg and Sara Eccleston say the paper was printed without their knowledge. They continue to meet with a lawyer to decide what steps to take next.

The editors held the issue as they fought with administrators over the district’s policy giving the principal the right to review the newspaper before publication.

Edmonds discusses change of schools

A noon superintendent’s roundtable discussion noon Dec. 7 at Edmonds School District headquarters will address the issue of school-to-school transitions.

The meeting will provide information on what to expect with the change of schools.

The gathering will be in the district’s educational service center, 20420 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood.

The monthly discussions with Superintendent Nick Brossoit are open to the public and give people a chance to ask questions, make comments or express concerns.

Monroe Schools set rental fees for stadium

Monroe School District last week set temporary rental fees for nonprofit groups itching to use its new stadium.

The fees for nonprofit groups are $30 per hour for use of the turf, $35 for utility costs and a $10 application fee.

School board members set the fees after talking with representatives of Sky River Soccer Club. They will set final fees for use of the facility, including the locker rooms, press box and scoreboard, at a later date.

Stanwood High School hosts financial aid night

Parents of Stanwood High School seniors are invited to attend a financial aid presentation at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6 in the performing arts center.

A representative from Everett Community College will show families how to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) required for many federal, state and college grants, loans and scholarships.

Cascade High School kicks off food drive

Cascade High School students and staff this week started their 44th annual food drive. They will collect food, gifts and money to feed over 120 families through Dec. 14, when they’ll personally deliver the gifts.

Shop online, donate to Northshore schools

Holiday shoppers can buy smoked salmon, desserts and other edible gifts online and benefit Northshore schools in the process.

Northshore Public Education Foundation will get 40 percent of sales from www.gourmet foodfundraiser.com in a partnership with World Wide Gourmet Foods.
