EVERETT — When a 10-year-old south Everett-area girl decided she wanted to run away from home Wednesday evening, she first made some preparations.
"She had two jackets, some chips, some food, some vitamins and $15," said Jan Jorgensen, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
The girl also had a lot of people worried.
Her 9 p.m. disappearance from her home in the 13700 block of 61st Avenue SE triggered an intense search involving dozens of search-and-rescue volunteers, police dogs and a sheriff’s office helicopter.
The search began at about 3:30 a.m. on Thursday and concluded with the girl being found unharmed at about 9:30 a.m. She apparently spent the night in a wooded area in the 5700 block of 144th Street SE.
A homeowner who had heard about the search called 911 after spotting somebody in the woods, Jorgensen said.
The girl told deputies that she knew a search was under way because she heard the helicopter. She was returned to her father, who is her custodial parent, Jorgensen said.
