SUMNER — The Pierce County sheriff’s office has suspended the search for a man who disappeared while floating in an inner tube down the Puyallup River near Sumner.
Lt. Cindy Fajardo says searchers found the tire innertube but no other sign of the 25-year-old Puyallup-area man.
She told a news briefing Tuesday that the river is too dangerous for searching. It’s very cold and running fast with zero visibility because of rapid snowmelt in the recent heat.
Fajardo says chances of finding the man are slim. He was not wearing a life jacket.
The man went in the water with two others Monday evening. They lost sight of him and pulled out and waited. When he didn’t show they began searching and called authorities around midnight.
