ARLINGTON — A 10-year-old boy who wandered away from home was found 20 minutes after the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office was notified, thanks to a small bracelet he was wearing.
The boy had a history of wandering away from home, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said. A few weeks ago, the boy was fitted for a bracelet from the Sheriff’s Office’s Project Lifesaver program.
Just after 1 p.m. Sunday, sheriff’s search and rescue crews were sent to the boy’s home in the 4500 block of 195th Place NE in Arlington. Less than 20 minutes later, he was found in a swamp behind his home.
Jorgensen said people of all ages can enroll in the Project Lifesaver program. It is generally used for people who tend to wander, including Alzheimer’s patients, autistic children and people who suffer from dementia.
Sheriff’s officials introduced the program in November 2001, and it became operational in January 2002. For more information on the project, call 425-388-3825.
