SEATTLE — Some of the first salmon caught in Alaska’s Copper River this year are schedule to arrive at Sea-Tac Airport on Friday aboard an Alaska Airlines cargo flight from Cordova.
Copper River salmon are prized for their high oil content and flavor. They typically bring the highest prices at restaurants and fish markets.
The arrival of the first fish has become an annual ceremony at the airport. This year three Seattle chefs will compete in the “Copper Chef Cook-off” in the Alaska Airline air cargo warehouse.
About 20,000 pounds of wild salmon from the plane will be quickly distributed to restaurants and stores for consumers.
