SEATTLE — In a project beginning this week, a Seattle church is giving five parking spots to homeless families living out of vehicles.
The car campers at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in the Loyal Heights neighborhood have access to the church restrooms and outlets for charging cell phones.
KING reports the City of Seattle is paying $30,000 to Compass Housing Alliance to oversee the program and help families find permanent housing.
Pastor Stephen Grumm says the congregation has been working with neighbors to address their concerns about the homeless.
The city estimates about 500 people in Seattle are living out of vehicles.
