Seattle man gets 14 years after killing 2nd person

SEATTLE — A Seattle man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after killing someone in a drug deal — for the second time.

Omar Tweedy pleaded guilty to gun and marijuana crimes in federal court in July, seven months after he shot and killed an acquaintance, Tyrone Finkley. A witness said Finkley pulled a gun and tried to rob Tweedy, and Tweedy said the shooting was in self-defense.

Tweedy had previously been convicted of murder in 1991 for killing a drug dealer he was trying to rob. He served 11 years, and as a felon was barred from having guns.

U.S. District Judge James Robart sentenced him Monday.

Seattle U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan said Tweedy was prosecuted as part of a federal effort to get violent criminals out of the community. Earlier this year, after several tragic and random shootings in Seattle, she promised to start sending more people to federal prison for gun crimes.
