SEATTLE — A Seattle city councilman says people should not be denied jobs because of a criminal record.
Bruce Harrell is proposing a law that would prevent employers from denying them jobs. There would be an exception for people working around seniors or other vulnerable people or in security jobs.
Harrell said more than 114,000 people in Seattle have arrest records, and inability to find work leads many to commit new crimes.
KOMO reported that the council is expected to vote on the proposal in the next month.
