SEATTLE — Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn is proposing a levy and new taxes to pay for waterfront and street improvements.
McGinn said Tuesday he’d like voters in November to decided on a 30-year levy to help pay for a $235 million seawall replacement — part of the city’s share of a tunnel to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct.
KOMO News reports McGinn also proposed a tax on commercial parking lots to help pay for renovating Mercer street — a key link between I-5 and the Seattle Center. And the mayor wants to create a taxing district to pay for improving surface streets.
The proposals go to the city council.
