SEATTLE — Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn wants the Legislature to take action now that a judge has struck down Seattle’s ban on guns in parks and other public spaces.
On Friday, King County Superior Court Judge Catherine Shaffer ruled that the city’s ban conflicts with Washington state law. Several groups had sued Seattle, including the National Rifle Association.
McGinn says cities should have the right to restrict guns at playgrounds, pools and community centers where children are present. He says the Legislature needs to change state law. The ban was put in place by McGinn’s predecessor, Greg Nickels.
