SEATTLE — Seattle police say they have arrested a 26-year-old man accused of beating a cab driver unconscious, calling the driver a terrorist and telling him to “go back to your own country.”
When the driver briefly fell unconscious early Sunday, police say the cab drifted out of control and hit several parked cars and an apartment building. No one else was hurt.
The cab driver told police he picked up three men and a woman and drove them to an address in the Magnolia neighborhood. A police spokesman says the assailant apparently became angry at how long it took to process his credit card for payment.
Police say the arrested man claimed self-defense. He was booked for investigation of malicious harassment.
KOMO-TV identified the cab driver as Adam Gaal, 34. The driver, who’s originally from Somalia, says he has been in the United States for more than a decade. He was treated by medics.
