SEATTLE — Seattle police report a big drop in crime in the city last year compared with 2009.
In a crime statistics report Tuesday, police said the 19 homicides in 2010 were the fewest since 1956. Adjusted for population, the overall crime rate was the lowest since 1967.
All major crimes — murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault — were 15 percent lower than 10-year averages.
Property crimes — burglary, larceny and auto theft — also were 15 percent lower than the 10-year averages. Only auto theft showed an increase in 2010 over the year before.
