SEATTLE — A man in his 20s is Seattle’s first homicide victim of 2009.
Police said the fatal shooting occurred inside the Chop Suey nightclub early Sunday.
Officers went to the club in the 1300 block of E. Madison Street after receiving 911 calls about a fight and shots fired.
Police found three gunshot victims, all men in their 20s, when officers arrived.
Investigators believe a band was playing at the club when an argument erupted and gunfire rang out in the crowd, officer Jeff Kappel told a Seattle newspaper.
Chop Suey’s online calendar shows that patrons had gathered Saturday night to see Young Soprano, Fatal Lucciauno, No Clue, Dividenz and Anonimous.
Investigators from the Seattle Police Department’s homicide, crime scene and gang units also responded to the club.
Kappel said officers rushed to the club after receiving 911 calls at 12:27 a.m. and found the three injured men.
Kappel said fire medics took one man to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center, where he died later.
A second man suffered life-threatening injuries and a third man was less seriously injured, Kappel said.
While two of the three men are believed to be club patrons, the third one might be an entertainer, according to Kappel.
Police said Sunday they have made one arrest and are looking for a second suspect. A 25-year-old man was arrested and booked into jail for investigation of assault. Another person was interviewed by police and released.
