SEATTLE — Two people, including a toddler, were fatally shot Monday night in a south Seattle residence, and a 6-year-old girl and a young man were critically injured, authorities said.
Police responding to a 911 hang-up call about 7:15 p.m. saw a young man pointing a gun out a window at them, police spokesman Clem Benton said.
The young man, in his late teens or early 20s, jumped out a window of the residence and started running toward police. Police shot him when he refused to stop, Benton said.
The young man was reported in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was undergoing surgery Monday night at Harborview Medical Center.
Police entered the residence, in the 9200 block of 51st Avenue S., to find a 2- or 3-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man dead, apparently of gunshot wounds. A 6-year-old girl who had been stabbed in the head was taken to Harborview, where she was in critical condition, hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg-Hanson said.
Emergency operators heard shooting in the background when they called back after the initial 911 call, Sgt. Cindy Granard said.
Mother suspected in girl’s abduction: Pierce County sheriff’s deputies were looking for a 9-year-old girl they said was abducted at gunpoint Monday by her birth mother. Rebecca Aramburo’s stepmother said she was dropping the girl off at her grandmother’s Lakewood home when the girl’s mother jumped out of a truck and snatched her away at gunpoint. The woman was charged with custodial interference earlier this year after failing to return her daughter to the child’s father and stepmother after being granted a one-week visit. Investigators said she also was accused of abducting her daughter in 1994 and disappearing for four years. The girl’s father and stepmother, Jose and Angelina Aramburo, share legal custody of the girl.
Two die in bridge collision: The bridge connecting Bainbridge Island to the Kitsap Peninsula was closed for several hours after a collision that killed two people Sunday, the state Department of Transportation said. The head-on crash shortly before 6 p.m. closed the Agate Passage bridge on Highway 305. The bridge was reopened late Sunday night. The Bainbridge Police Department was investigating.
Teen-ager critical after colliding with trash can: An 18-year-old Lebanon man who collided with a trash can while hanging out of the passenger window of a car was in critical condition Monday with a head injury. Jeremiah McBride was taken by LifeFlight to OHSU Hospital after the accident Saturday, according to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office. The driver of the car, 18-year-old Kyle Allen Pitts, of Lebanon, was charged with driving under the influence. The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate.
