ELLENSBURG — Food and yard wastes and sewer biosolids from Seattle could be composted at an industrial-size operation east of Ellensburg.
Representatives of PacificClean Environmental of Spokane said Tuesday they have asked Kittitas County to consider leasing 120 acres at the Ryegrass Facility, a 640-acre county-owned section that includes a construction debris landfill and a septic pumpout drying operation.
The Daily Record reported the company could invest $35 million to establish the composting facility.
General Manager Larry Condon said studies would be conducted before the company formally applies for a conditional use permit.
The company previously proposed a composting facility in the Elk Heights area of Kittitas County but withdrew plans when neighbors objected.
