50 years ago (1964)
The Fall Hat Story would be told at the General Hospital Alumnae Association’s luncheon at the Alpine Cafeteria with millinery from Miller’s in a show presented by Gertrude Critchlow, with hair stylist and cosmetologist from Golden Lamp Salon and Darlene’s Beauty Salon. Rachel Orstad, Gloria Anderson and Gladys Lovell were taking reservations.
Rosemary Precht, Everett High junior, was one of the young people who stuffed workers’ kits, organized teams and joined the hundreds of volunteers who this week were talking Civic Music wherever they went. Robert March was Everett Civic Music president. It was the 33rd such music campaign.
25 years ago (1989)
Masako Watanabe won two individual races and anchored Cascade High’s winning 400-yard freestyle relay team to lead the Bruins to the non-conference victory over Sehome at the Everett Community College pool.
The second annual Puget Sound Marching Band Championships featuring 20 top high school bands from Washington and Oregon was taking place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 14 at Snohomish High School Veterans Memorial Stadium. Tickets were $4 at the gate.
