50 YEARS AGO (1959)
The city tree-planting program, sponsored by the Street Department, Park Department and Everett Junior Chamber of Commerce, was ready to roll. Flowering trees would be planted on Grand, Rucker, Hoyt and Colby avenues from 10th Street to Alverson Boulevard, and along Alverson.
Contractors were asked to bid on the proposed Cathcart Elementary School, which was designed by Harry E. Botesch, Architect and F. Edward Brown Associate, 3030 Colby Ave. Bids would be mailed to Izora Brown, secretary to the Snohomish School Board.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Stephen Good, head of Northsound Association for Catholic Education, said it was no longer a question of if, but of when, a Roman Catholic high school would open in Snohomish County. The location had been narrowed to three sites in south Everett.
Local airmen graduating from special training courses at Keesler AFB, Miss., included Michael W. Lang of Lynnwood, electronic warfare countermeasures, and Richard J. Fleming of Edmonds, avionic inertial and radar navigation systems.
