50 years ago (1964)
After 41 years a the same site on North Creek, West Coast Powder Co. was being liquidated. Loren Baker, plant manager, said that economic changes in the use of explosives had necessitated the move. The machinery would be junked and the buildings destroyed. Baker was planning “pleasurable living ahead.”
New to the Everett School District this year and assigned to teach at Evergreen Junior High School were Toni Slater, Toni Hopkins, Sheila Larson, Deena Wendling, Gene Wiggins, Ed Cochrane, Don Swenk and Gary Haveman.
25 years ago (1989)
Stepping gingerly from log to log, Dave Music escorted his children , Lisa, 7 and Travis, 4, over the driftwood lining Howarth Park beach. He said he and his wife loved to take their family to the park. The weather would be right for these kinds of family outings for the next few days with temperatures climbing into the 80s.
Traffic moved normally from the Edmonds ferry dock this morning, and ferry officials hoped the worst of the slowdowns were over. A paving project at the dock was now completed and both lanes of traffic on the dock were opened today.
