50 years ago (1958)
Workers of Shaffer Construction Co. were edging shoreward with their repair job on the step bulkhead holding the fill beneath the Fishermen’s Net Shed at 14th Street. The $24,741 project would be completed next month. Port workers were following the crew, laying decking over the reconstructed bulkhead.
25 years ago (1983)
Thomas Karas, a consultant for the Congressional Office for Technological Assessment, had written a timely new book about the current U.S.-Russian arms race, “The New High Ground.” Karas was a 1962 graduate of Everett High School, and a graduate of Yale University who had a doctorate from Harvard.
Four area high school basketball players were selected to play in the ninth annual All-State basketball games. They were Chris Chandler of Everett, Curt Brott of Bothell and Darrin Levy of Shorecrest for the city team, and Mark Anderson of Oak Harbor for the state team.
